Can i go surfing in a 7mm scuba wetsuit?

You are going to be really warm. I think most people socal do with a 4/3 for the winter along with like 3mm booties and maybe a hood. I was surfing in sept (2010) around north LA county (zuma to county line) and only used a 4/3 with booties if the air was cold as well. My friend who lived down there said that was about as cold as it got as well since it was just an unusually cold year. I think the water was bout 57 at the coldest. The main thing to mention about a 7mm diving suit is that it is going to be very cumbersome to surf in. That is a lot of extra fabric not designed for surfing and its going to make things like paddling much harder.
